Is there something to learn from the drawing that is not obvious by simply looking at a 510 table?

Spacing is one thing, location(s) is another. I will look at a 'set' and come back after trip to grocery!

I have 510's and just got one of those 500 shaper fences, so am also interested in the information on that SS diagram.

Where would you put the 'holes'?

Not as simple from this vantage point!;)

I would also be interested in the hole locations.
When I upgraded to the 520, I tried to see where it could be modified, but it didn't seem possible. What I did was to use T-nuts to secure the fence, but this puts it too far back, so I mounted 1-1/4" thick spacers to push the fence forward. Not my idea - I think I found it on the forum.

While on the subject of the Shaper Fence, can someone tell me if Shopsmith sold two different Shaper/Sander table inserts for the 510/520? I don't see different inserts in the catalog, but perhaps there were two types when the 510 first came out.
The round hole in the 510 insert I have isn't large enough to accept the sanding drum and the hole is offset a bit from the center of the insert. I have no problem with the insert for the Model 500 and it's hole is centered.

Yes, there are two different inserts with round holes. The difference being in the size and location of the holes.

When I upgraded to the 520 and ordered the shaper insert I got what you described. Simple fix - I used a hole saw to drill out the insert so now the drum sander fits.
