Timely idea
I had forgotten about the map, and hadn't updated my inventory. Now I'm current and marked, and willing to help any other SS owners that I can.
'55 Greenie #292284 (Mar-55), '89 SS 510 #020989, Mark VII #408551 (sold 10/14/12), SS Band Saw, (SS 500 #36063 (May-79) now gone to son-in-law as of 11-11), Magna bandsaw, Magna jointer 16185 (May-54), Magna belt sander SS28712 (Dec-82), Magna jigsaw SS4397 (Dec-78), SS biscuit joiner, Zyliss (knockoff) vise, 20+ hand planes, 60s Craftsman tablesaw, CarbaTec mini-lathe, and the usual pile of tools. Hermit of the Hills Woodworks, a hillbilly in the foothills of the Ozarks, scraping by.
I personally still kind of like the original idea of having a thread for each state where people could introduce themselves to others in their state. Would also give more room for people to list their tools, what their specialties are (if any) and give a more personal feel rather than just having an icon on a map.
Plus, if you don't know about the map it is hard to find unless you stumble across a thread where someone mentions it. A thread for each state would be easy to find with the search feature, and is the first thing I would search for if looking for others from my state/area.

Now it's a race to who can start their own state.pessen wrote:I personally still kind of like the original idea of having a thread for each state where people could introduce themselves to others in their state. I always found the map kind of useless... After a few people it just becomes a pile.
I'll try an Indiana thread (under Indiana Shopsmith owners).
