I have hired one of the best Videographer's in Northern Calif to film the series. I am anxiously awaiting the day when these videos become available. I just hope that I am able to afford them. This does not sound like a "low budget" operation. Two years worth of operating/production costs (with markup) to be spread over eleven DVDs must be recovered.

It sounds like it's time to revise the budget. Must add one video ($???) every two months beginning in about two months. Must also add these to the Christmas/Birthday/Father's Day gift list.

Maybe I should think about a couple special projects the I could do in the meantime. Something that SWMBO will readily remember when this discussion comes up. Credibility you know.

Shelves, bookcases, toy boxes, jewelry box, drawer dividers for kitchen drawers, pull out shelves in kitchen cabinets, more shelves in the closets, new cabinets in laundry room, cook cart for patio area, just to name a few.

These are all items on the "honey-do" list. Finding something she wants won't be hard.

I too will be antisipating the first release. So count me in. By the way anybody know what happened to Mike Young & Casey Chaffin. Mike did the sawdust therapy and alignment tapes. I have several of the Shopsmith Heirloom projects that Casey Chaffin did.

After looking at the other thread posted by Nick has anyone thought of contacting him and joining forces on this project. It might avoid a duplication of effort. Its just a thought.

I thought the same thing, at first. But when I read Rick's post over again, I believe this is already a collaborative effort. Rick is preparing the video's based on his own market research and own general knowledge and is then marketing them (I believe) thru Shopsmith channels.

We already know that there will be overlap. Rick's first DVD is to cover Shopsmith alignment procedures (per his post) as did the first Sawdust Session.

If you read what Rick has posted and you don't agree with my conclusions - please let me know. I have no information other than what you can read on this thread. These conclusions are simply my interpretations.

This is at the heart of my original questions. I honestly cannot tell if these are joined/collaborative or not. I did not reach the same conclusion you did, Dusty. I'm in a wait and see mode.

I'm surprised Nick has gone radio silent with respect to this.

Paul, I agree with you. I would hate to see two groups with such an outstanding idea to end up competing with each other. From reading the two proposed ideas, I can very easily see where there could be a significant duplication of effort. While competition usually results in a lower price, I would rather see cooperation and put out a really top quality product, one that would benefit all Shopsmith owners.

Come -on guys!!!:( Rick is still employed by Shopsmith. He is the Western Academy instructor! (The only Traveling Instructor they presently have!) If I can try to quote from his original post - "This is my project and Shosmith will be marketing it."

This project obviously has been blessed by SS. All I can suggest is to re-read the original posting again!:D

I'm surprised Nick has gone radio silent...

Nothing to say, Paul. Until Rick's post, I was unaware that he is developing a series of videos. It is not a cooperative or collaborative effort; there has been no communication between Rick and the Academy. I had heard about the alignment/maintenance video, but it is my understanding that this was to be reviewed and accepted by Shopsmith before it could be announced as a product. If I have anything at all to say, it's that Rick has apparently jumped a gun.

With all good wishes,

Thank you, Nick, for being so open and honest. Separate efforts are not a bad thing. As I said, in the end it is the content that will count.

I suspect anything related to setup/maintenance/usage would find a receptive community of buyers among SS owners. Anything related to specific projects would be dependant on the interest of the individual.

Good luck to both efforts! In then end, we viewers will win.
