Once the paint was done I started working yesterday on the Way tubes. I first made a expansion plug for my drill sanding lathe if you want to call it that.

Here is the parts for the plug. I drilled a 5/16 hole in the center of the rubber cone shaped stopper while it was inserted in the way tube.



Here it put together note the jam nuts are placed inside the tube and the single nut is near the drill chuck. then tighten so it expands and holds against the inside of the way tubes.

Once the expansion plug is in both the drill chuck and the tube



I was able to simply lay the tube on four rubber caster wheels that I screwed to the work bench.



Then I used two tail pipe hangers as my drill mount and some zip ties to hold the drill in place.

Then I turned on and locked the drill in the on position and began sanding. This is the results of using 100 Grit sand paper.



Here is the results after 150 Grit sand paper.



240 Grit



400 Grit

Tomorrow I will plane down the boards on the bench that came with my ER I still am not sure if I will use them still but will decide tomorrow when done planing them.

I will post pictures of the before and after shots when I get it done.

Also i need some advice on how to fix the motor wiring problem I have. I want to replace the old wires but not sure just how to do it.



If some one could explain how I get the wires separated from the motor windings and then how to connect them to the winding leads I would be most grateful.

Would you share the O'reilly part numbers for the bearings?
did you get all four?
I have a local store, but they aren't the brightest fellas I ever met.
They can't (or won't) look up a part unless you tell them what year and model car or truck it's for.

Sure I will share the part number 203 FF in either the National or MasterPro Brands. I have one of each since they only have one of each on the shelf. There are only two bearings on the drive motor shaft not four.

I have not got to the head stock yet that will be my next job after i get the table finished and the tubes refinished.

I thought about leaving them the way they are but the shiny tubes that mickyd managed to get out the rusted ones he got I should be able to better on the ones I had that were not as rusty. I should have used a lower grit to start out with.

Also I ordered me two polishing wheels and some black brown and white polishing compound. Should have my knobs and handles looking good in a week or so.

mickyd I hope you are proud of yourself you have brought out the perfectionist in my at full force. Though my wife is not happy with the money I am spending to get there.
