If upgrades - just how much cheaper are we talking about?

The online price for a new PowerPro Headstock (556176) is $1,899.00 plus shipping. Give me a couple coupons and a discount here and there and allow me to avoid shipping cost and I'll have to go to Lowe's to place an order.
By going through the demo you get about $220 as I recall. In theory, you should be able to use a coupon (either the 10% one that is in the movers packet at your local post office, or if you are really lucky a 20% off one from harbor freight), and then either use a 5% off by buying with your lowes card or get whatever financing they are offering (currently 6 mo same as cash)

No way to avoid shipping unfortunately.

If you are two hours from the factory can you pick it up? (I'm not ready yet) :)
I ordered my Woodmizer in person at the main office (west side Indy) and picked it up at the Batesville IN plant.

When I purchased my DIY Power Pro, Jan in Customer Service said that I could pick it up at the plant, but they would have to charge me Ohio Sales Tax. The amount of tax vs the shipping cost was a "wash out".

I wonder if I could get an agricultural input cost sales tax exemption on it if I promised to build a chicken plucker attachment for it? :D :D

How are you finding out where they are doing the demos?

I paid $1,336 for the DIY upgrade with shipping with my $50 Lowes coupon.
I got the lift assist upgrade for $37 shipped. I did not know about the 10% off or the PowerPro would have been a little cheaper.

Everything in the Shopsmith catalog is on sale, not everything is eligible for the Lowes discounts as well.

If the DIY is offered at the demos, and is coupon and discount elgible, you should give this upgrade serious consideration.

It is, I purchased the DIY upgrade. I have already some one old part for $195 so the $200 rebate is not a good deal. I will get $400-$500 out of the excess 520 parts.

I think I was at the same demo as other posters here, the one in West Chester, Ohio. I liked what I saw and became a Mark VII owner. If you use your Lowe's card you get either a 5% discount or six months same as cash. I was lucky and my son was with me that is active military and Lowe's allowed me to get the 10% discount. One note, you cannot add the 10% + 5% discounts, but you can add 10% discount with six month same as cash.

I bought mine last Sunday and received a call yesterday that I can pickup the head and starter package today. :D I live 48 miles south of Shopsmith and am going to pick up today. Bad news is the band saw won't be available until end of July and the dust collector the end of August. Good news is Shopsmith is going to ship those to me for free, good customer support.

If anyone has advice for the new guy, I'm listening. I am going to setup shop in my basement. Until my dust collector arrives what are my options? Thanks.
