If making bowls Only ever use the skew on the out side of the bowl for profile work!

NEVER EVER Under any circumstances attempt to use a skew on the inside surface of a bowl. At very least you have major catches and a lot of repair work to your bowl. Flying bowls and flying chisels are never fun. Not to mention a sprained wrist, a damaged tool rest, and a bent skew, that Dad was not very happy about.

Hey I was 16 and it was my first "solo" bowl with out dad being around. He never mentioned not using a flat cutting edge on an inside curve.

Flats edges can be used on outside curves but not on inside ones. Bad things happen.
