Nor does he have money. It is about 2+ hours away and in some nice county for being in IL. If I did have the money then would come the place to put it, about the best I could do would be a tarp in the backyard and that is no way to treat a shopsmith.

The Pick-Up Only Ebay auctions can providean opportunity for a good deal assuming the starting price is good. I recall being back on the East Coast five years ago on family business and scanning Ebay for Shopsmith stuff early in the morning. Found a late model 520 with belt sander, jointer, bandsaw, scroll saw, Ringmaster and the proverbial "box' of goodies for local pickup only on the Left Coast in Alta Dena, CA.
What floored me was the Buy It Now price of ..............
wait for it
$460
Needless to say I bought it now and my loving wife and son went up and picked it up for me. I love my family!:D
One of the SS's that I bought came from Rockford Illinois a few years ago. A rather mediocre greenie I believe. Hardly in the same class as this one mentioned.
Illinois is a nice place but dang, most of the northern 2/3rds is boring to drive across... Of course part of northern Indiana is like that too but at least it is shorter distances... Here on the edge of the prairie thankfully we are only about 40 miles from some very pretty country and most of our "Sunday drives" (can happen any day of the week at the drop of a hat) tend to be toward the south.
While most folks look for the most bee-line routes Diana and I look the map over carefully looking for the twisty roads.

You know you sound just like my long lost win brother from a different mother! I love long "SUNDAY DRIVES" And I really like the ones that happen on accident. Just last month me and my wife were up in Branson MO. On our way home to Sallisaw Ok. we took the Sunday drive special route of course.
You might want to check out your Atlas for this one boys and girls.
Drove out of Branson going East on Hwy 76 which takes a turn to the north and heads up to Forsyth Mo.
Then took a Right turn on hwy 160 a short jog going east. where it turned Right again going south.
Then we took state hwy M through cedar Creek and went on down to Potem Cedar Creek road to 125 where followed it to the end of the line.
We caught the Peel Ferry and then headed down to Lead Hill Arkansas and from there wen to Harrison Arkansas.
Then ended up in Russelville Arkansas Via Hwy 7.
From there we just followed I 40 back West to Sallisaw.
Let me tell you driving that driving that stretch of the road (Hwy 7 in Arkansas) for the first time at night was an experience but one we will never forget.
