But will you please explain what harm or damage is done if I tweak that screw and it makes the fence parallel to the blade? Why can I not leave it there? I mean, after all, it does relocate the fence.
On the surface I can agree(what difference does it make).
Looking a bit 'deeper', the six ribbed surfaces provide a more stable/sturdy 'stop' than one end and a screw.
The screw is subject to 'drifting'. Ideally I prefer something more stable and not requiring tweaking.
The clamp will stress the 'unstopped' center. Minimal issue.
I understand the concern re intended alignment screws, but there are two versions, and the one with smaller screws
is prone to stripping. Maybe blue locktite(between the fence extrusion and mount, not the screws) would help by minimizing the need to over torque the screws.
In any event those 'new people' need to understand that that is not the 'right way'. Tis a personal choice to be a 'deviate'.

I, for one, appreciate the information about the side screws. I had wondered what the heck they were doing there.

You have confused me now, Rick. There is only one offset screw. Is there something else that I need to know.

The Mark V 500 vintage have that screw on
both sides. I do not know when it was added, nor why!
Perhaps some other folks who are known to wander the streets of Dayton and environs were confused themselves when a new mold was designed.
After they were decades removed from the time of the original design.

Thank you. Someday I will have learned to anticipate the 500.
