Honestly, this is a part of their business that is a little frustrating. It seems that if they want to go JIT and focus on making customers happy they would put specs with their generic part numbers, especially if they weren't in stock. Lets face it, on a 50 cent part they really aren't making much money overall, so why not put on the item page the specs for the part (extra bonus if they provided a link to mcmaster carr or similar).
It would be the best of both worlds - those wanting to single source from SS would be able to do so. Those not wanting to wait for a backorder would have all the info they need to move forward with a correct matching part.

That was the way it was a half century ago.

Okay I did my part today for ya. I ordered a new speed control assembly and a couple other parts to have on hand.

If you are unable to obtain a item (screw, bolt, nut, etc.) or part from Shopsmith, I most likely have the information available and where I obtained the item/part. I also have available many of these new and reconditioned items/parts as I use them when rebuilding headstocks. Contact me off line (

Sorry to have been so 'over the top', but you ain't the 'first'.
I do not unnerstan the 'over-reaction' to e-mail addresses. They are not cast in stone. If one becomes a problem, ditch it! Of course that means 'informing' those you do not want to 'lose'!
If there is personal info issues that you want to protect, use an address that is unique to that involvement.

From having run a web site for awhile.....e-mail address' online sometimes attract SPAM in a big way. I think that is why so many have an aversion to posting theirs.
Btw...Going back to the original thread topic(sort of) I ordered some parts for my standalone OPR last week. 1/2 of them where out of stock....On the phone thy let me know that there could be a wait...got the whole order yesterday. Surprised and Very Happy! Now I can try this thing out. (Upgraded from stand alone OPR only to the version with the 2 routers for under and over routing)

The email spam on my website reply tool became so bad I purchased a service from the host company that all email goes to. Periodically I check for real messages. 99.99999 percent of messages received are spam. Fortunately my website is scheduled to be shut down later this year. However I seldom receive any email when posting a personal email address in a message on a discussion group. Admittedly I have received several individual comments that I should not do that.
