Welcome to the forum, I too inherited my SS from My dad, who got it from his Father in Law (PaPa to me).
SS seems to run in families.

Welcome aboard. One thing you should do before using your Shopsmith is clean and most of all lubricate the headstock. Unless you immediately plan on upgrading to the Power Pro motor- capable of 10,000 rpm and new technology. But it is perfectly fine using the sheave system, but there are some things you need to know in order to make your experience a better one. Maintenance and of course being familiar with the safe operation of the system will help in making your experience a long-term one. Get yourself a can of Johnson's Paste Wax and use it on the way & bench tubes & they'll stay shiny & the headstock will move much easier. Enjoy!

Congratulations on your acquirement. So sorry for your personal loss, but congrats on your new-like toys (I mean tools). If you can find the manuals for the main machine and the SPT's, you'll be way ahead. Great info. Welcome to a great group. I have read and learned much from the posts here.
