Well, i do use pallet wood on occasion, but i am picky with pallets. I only use newer ones, and I know where they come from and know they are safe. I never used "found" pallets. I also use cheap disposable blades when cutting them... I agree, generally speaking, stay away from pallet wood.

If you want some decent wood for a decent price tag ,,most the time free,,,,, If there is a factory or construction site around close,,, you can many times get free dunnage just for asking ,,,, wood from shipping dpts is usually decent stuff and very strong.
Many times all hard wood .
I made some rustic door trim from some really nice knotty pine that was going to get destroyed.
beautiful stuff .
Many times it only has nails in the ends and used once.

Many cabinet shops will let you search through their trash containers for high grade cutoffs they can't use to make cabinets. If I'm looking for nice oak, cherry, or mahogany I can usually find enough for my projects at these places for free. Sometimes I get lucky and find some exotic wood if the shop is building cabinets for one of the high end developments around here.
