Hello I own a good shopsmith myc1.25 HP motor died .My question is does anyone know if the blue shopsmith have the same size motor or will they fit my gold shopsmith .There a guy that selling one for his father that passed away and he hasno ideal on motor size .thank you.

If a Shopsmith Mark 5/V is painted blue it is because somebody repainted it from its original color of Green/Silver (1950's), Gold/Copper (early 1960's) or Gray (mid 1960's to present). The Motor was 3/4 HP for the Mark 5's until March/April 1961 when they changed to the 1-1/8 HP Motor. There have been several Manufacturers of Electric Motors that have provided them over the years. These are not generic motors but have mountings specific for the Conventional Headstock used on all Mark 5/V models.

As seen on the Vent/Information Plate shown below, that April 1961 Goldie came from the factory with a 1-1/8 HP Motor. The Motor HP is on the lower right of the plate. That Plate is attached to the Belt Cover which also includes the serial number for Mark 5/Vs made until December 1987. Keep in mind the original Motor for any Conventional Headstock could have been replaced. Many 3/4 HP Motors have been replaced upgrading to the 1-1/8 HP Motor. It is much less likely that it happened the other way around of 1-1/8 HP to 3/4 HP, but possible.
