What happens in DRILL PRESS mode?

That is why there is a weak spring. When I did use it as a drill press, I had to bang on the motor pan sometimes to get the motor to start. With the motor on the bench, depending on the motor position, you can get the relay to chatter or not work at all. I only use the 3/4 HP with with this relay for my MINI Shopsmiths which will never be used in the Drill Press position.

Me thinks that the relay must NOT be positioned 'upside down' during 'bench test'.

The relay should be function in all positions. Mine is noisy, but functions, in all positions.

When NEW Yes! Neither yours NOR Bill's are new! The constant 'clicking' concerns me. Reminds me of an old fashioned door bell/buzzer. Such action will eventually erode the contact points.

P.S. My recollection of # 103 had a different pix. The one I recall had the relay and capacitor and motor separated and spread out on the bench. I can see from the current pix that the relay plunger would NOT work against gravity in either horizontal OR vertical position. IF you ARE adventurous AND you can see HOW to take relay apart AND reassemble, you could attempt to SLIGHTLY increase return spring tension to see if is reduces/eliminates the 'clicking'.

I just picked up a new replacement relay (different part number) for the 3/4hp motor from GE from a local control supplier. I'll test it tonight and post the results tonight.
