Sorry if I'm biased. Can someone steer me straight?

I'll try, Steve!
1) Put your hammers in a drawer, of hang them up.
2) Enjoy your machines. Even the more frail one - when you finally get one

NO, I seriously doubt that your mindset is subject to change. If that is what you see as fact, then it is fact. The fact that I disagree with you simply makes me wrong (in your judgement). Continue believing what you believe. Just don't expect me to change my mind.

Of course it can recover with a little TLC. Here is one of my 1952 10ER's.
Looks like a really "sweet machine", John. You have done a great job of bringing it back, I assume to almost original mint condition. But will it ever be covered with sawdust again? Is it really a wood working tool or is it a museum piece? At the moment, it qualifies for both.

Well, the plan is to use this one (S/N 83974) as a dedicated lathe. This winter I am restoring it's younger brother S/N 83973. That will be my dedicated 10ER drill press.

My current dedicated drill press is an original Montgomery Wards demo machine. That is the one that will be the museum machine.

You can see them here...

Dusty, you are getting into one of your own "snake pits here". Remember your off track thread rant last spring??

Didn't mean to kick over a can of worms. That is a nice resto job on your 10ER. But the one in the ad picture looks like the rust is becoming cancerous. When it etches in the metal the damage signs will always be there even though you can get all the rust color out. Your "before" picture showed you got to the rust in time. Great job.
