Re: Yet another "Goldie" Restoration
Now a question. I am upgrading to a 2 bearing quill and a 1 1/18 hp Emerson motor. I have taken apart the motor for clean up. The sheaves had a small amount of corrosion on them, so I hit them with some scotch brite pads. Should I do anything to prevent future corrosion? I assume waxing them would be a no go, since the belt would probably slip.

Re: Yet another "Goldie" Restoration
I do not see any corrosion to be concerned about(staining at the periphery not deep enough to worry about)
Beside some significant running at high speed will polish that area from belt wear.
'Engraving' painting looks really really good.

Re: Yet another "Goldie" Restoration
OK, so a little bit of waxing won't hurt?
Also, I check the bearings. The back one seams ok, but the one on the sheave side has a little bit of hitch in it's giddy up. Will the Nachi 6203-2NSE9C3 work for both ends?

Re: Yet another "Goldie" Restoration
I have also been able to pick up a belt sander and jointer at pretty reasonable prices.

Re: Yet another "Goldie" Restoration
Save the wax for something that needs it!

Good looking jointer(BS looks nice also).
Re bearing, depends/which brand. IIRC Emerson? maybe A.O. Smith? uses a 6203-5/8 id bearing at the dead end.

Re: Yet another "Goldie" Restoration
The Jointer and Bandsaw look pretty good.
The Bandsaw is from around the mid 1970's. It has the Cast Iron Table which looks like there is no rust. That table will benefit from waxing. The Cast Iron Bandsaw Table uses the older style Miter from the Mark 5/V that does not have the washer for the "T" track tables or remove the "T" Track washer from newer Miters. It also should not have the Safety Grip attached for use as a fence. The one slot in the table is for using the Miter as a Fence while the other slot is for using the Miter to push stock past the blade. A well-designed tool from the mid 1950's that is hard to beat in its function today.
The Jointer has the date code made January 10, 1994. The last change to the Jointer was the Cutterhead in 1990 so yours uses all the current parts. No need to buy assemblies when an individual part needs replacing with the exception of the Quadrant Assembly.

Re: Yet another "Goldie" Restoration
I have a question on Bill Mayo's Quadrant modification. In his paper, he states that he wants all of the rotation in the quadrant on the bolt not on the legs. The holes in the legs on mine are larger than in the quadrant, so it rotates on the legs. Am I reading this wrong?
