Now I am seriously considering getting a small hydraulic jack in order to raise/adjust the headstock when already in vertical position. Had to do that by the armstrong method today and found out they could use more strength.]
I'll second that. I used an old BMW crank-jack 'cause I didn't have a hydraulic handy, but the idea is the same. I'm now making a plan to make future insertions easier and more solid. It works great even if the headstock weren't heavy.
And yes, Capitulation City here, I got the heavier Lift-Assist cylinder. Big difference, good purchase.

She said they plan on shipping later this week or early next week. Yipeeee!!!!! I ordered on Dec 2nd so that makes for a really short 4 to 6 week wait period..

Any of you folks with the powerpro upgrade keep your original speed control assembly? I just picked up a shopsmith mark V that needs a new quadrant arm/worm gear. The teeth on the quadrant are badly chewed up and the worm gear shaft is not quite straight anymore.
I might even take an old control sheave/idler shaft assembly off your hands as the vanes on my sheaves stick pretty bad at the lower speed setting (which I can't quite achieve right now because the quadrant won't push them together). A new set would save me the work of filing/sanding them down to fit better.
