So this is not an offer to sell, but a request for advice. My dad recently passed away, and we have his Mark VII with lots of attachments which we need to do something with. Although I do a reasonable amount of hands-on work in my spare time, most of the carpentry is really more like rough carpentry (shed building, rough projects) rather than fine woodworking, and I don't think I have the time to do the refurbishing that the Mark VII (mid-60's vintage) would require. So we would really like this machine to go to someone who could use it, rather than to a scrap yard. My main question is: where is the best place to advertise this, or the best way to locate someone local who might be able to refurbish and use this machine? Is it all craigslist and eBay, or is there a better way to go?
Thanks in advance,
Jay
Sorry for your loss, and thank you for wanting to have the Mark VII go to a good home.
It would help to know what city you are in. Posting here may generate a PM (Private Message) from an interested member. In addition to Craigslist, try posting on the

Ron,
Thanks, and thanks for the advice. I am in Olney MD, and the Shopsmith is nearby in Rockville MD.

Small world! You are practically in my backyard (Laytonsville). Unfortunately, I have no room for a Mark VII.

I seem to recall a 'sun porch' that should be essentially empty now that a certain boat has vacated!
Make room fer it. It is a very interesting machine.

Just as some additional info about this Mark VII: I think it was purchased new in around 1965 by my dad. He was in the Navy until 1979, so never really had time to use it all that much, but I do remember using it with him in the early 70's. This is probably a terrible advertisement for this particular machine, but the main thing I remember about it was that the speed control used to ratchet up higher and higher all by itself, so we had to wedge little pieces of wood under the dial to keep it steady. From what I've been reading on this site, it sounds like that might be because of the speed control cam having melted(?), but I haven't looked at it. I see several old posts about people having new cams made for them by someone with a CNC machine or a 3D printer. Are these parts still available? If so, I might purchase one and install it just to be giving/selling someone a fully functional machine. I'm not really trying to make any money from selling this, but it always galls me to throw away something which still has lots of good use in it.

That would be the end of me for sure.
