Someone told to get good at two types of ups, shut and listen. And yeah, the first one is harder than the second.

The real discussion here has little to do with being horizontal or vertical. It is centered around how much rotation is permitted by the Base Assemblyt (the pivot point). When going vertical (either end) rotation is limited by a hard stop. That's it, there ain't no more.

I consider mine to be "dead on".

Level floors do not matter. Degree of rotation is the issue. How far does it rotate from the at rest position. Once vertical -center of gravity is in control. A whole different discussion.

The ones of 'us' that considered over the center(>90°) an intentional design detail.

So everything is still holding together and true though the new giant chucks have some disappointing runout, so gotta figure that out. Added a vice system with some knobs to make it easier to install and remove, added a couple posts to mount new giant chucks with runout issues and put a Schmuckatelli Co. Skull Knob for a crown. Not trying to sell anything. Figured I owe some pics.
Hope all is well with all of you and yours. Happy Holidays

Very nice setup, especially the “crown”.
