I read that also and you know it is very true. We will spend a young fortune on drills both corded and cordless, on drill presses and such and then we hunt for the cheapest drills we can find.

Also if you look beyond drills and drill bits you will see many of us also tend to make similar bad decisions when it comes to other tools, woods, plans, supplies.

We will often spend thousands buying tools and then use the cheapest wood we can find, cheapest finish that exists, some times the cheapest hardware to go with it.

What Ed says here is so true. It is probably the main reason that so many of our manufacturing jobs have moved abroad, especially to China. The (not so) funny thing about it is that even though American companies have moved their manufacturing out of the country, the price of their products did not go down.
