You're absolutely right - I went out and checked my '79 (Serial #27995) and the # is stamped on the metal plate that surrounds the high-speed jointer drive - actually according to the SS page that means my unit was actually made in the tail-end of '78, which makes sense based on when I remember my Dad purchasing it (early '79). It also just lists the # as 27995 and not 027995, so your new find must actually be a Mark V 500 from 1990.letterk wrote:I thought the picture with the toggle switch was an earlier machine? My 1985 and 1987 have stamped serial numbers on the vent plate. When did they move to stickers? My 1991 has the "c" headstock with the sticker. The problem with the stickers is they end up looking like the one in the picture -faded and falling off.
Here is a thread that mentioned C headstocks were introduced in 1991. Nick Engler posted later and he didn't disagree with that info.
