To learn more about 3D printing, Learn from the best (shameless plug).

This is where I work.

For the replacement parts you would be making with your 3D printer, would you be using the printed pieces to create molds and then make metal parts from those molds? I didn't think the printed material (ABS plastic?) would be strong enough to make a direct replacement part in this case.
I'm interested in 3D printing as well. #5 on my project list is to build a DIY CNC with the purpose of deisgning blanks for mold making and for casting plastics and eventually metal. 3D scanning and printing have crossed my mind, but not sure about size and resolution and how much time it will save. I would be making mostly vehicle parts, so most but not all would be bigger than a breadbox. And yes, I realize I have too much time on my hands.

I built my first 3D printer(REPRAP) about 3 years ago. I have since progressed. I also built a 3 axis CNC to compliment. I then decided to modify It is still a CNC but it is a hotwire foam cutter.(I do special effects).

My 3D scanner is homemade as well with a freeware compliment. Look up DAVID 3D scanners. Also 123D Catch.

I apologize if my earlier sitrep seemed aggressive. It was not my intention. I just love getting these private messages about "the waste of time" certain people who critique everything like to send me in regards to this restoration.

I will try to shoot and post pictures hopefully tomorrow.
