Actually I trust the electronics more than I do the mechanical.
I have always worried about buggering up the inside of my SS but thankfully it has never happened.

The Power Pro is great idea and I believe it is/will save the company for a while.

My belief is had they priced it where it should have been priced Shopsmith would have a nice stockpile of money now which if handled properly would insured their existence for a long time. However I think all they are getting now is survival money.

By my figuring they are only going to get a very small (in relative terms) piece of the market. My guess if the Power Pro had been priced where it should have been they would have sold ten times what they have already sold.

It still might happen if they ever put it on a real sale, we will see.

Well if the poll represents all active SS owners, 50% in sales or about to be sales to date isn't too bad. I was willing to guess 30%. It's just a matter of time before they start showing up on E-bay. Wouldn't it be nice if some nice little old lady is selling her dearly departed hubby's SS and prices it according to what she's seen posted before. A $500 510 PowerPro. I will be first in line for that one.

I haven't pushed the limits of my 510 yet. Still way to early to change it over. At the price of a used 500-510, the machine is a great value. I've got to admit at 3+ what I spent on my machine for just a head upgrade, I'm somewhat suspicious that it would be such a great value.

I don't have production numbers but that poll is no where near representative of factory output. I don't even think it tells the whole story for just the forum members. Sure would have been nice to have included respondent names.

I didn't want to discourage anybody from taking the poll by sharing their identity. I felt that if they wanted everybody to know how they voted, they would post their comments, which many have.

Dusty, I'm guessing your post means the factory has sold a lot more than 30 units - a supposition with which I would agree. If however, you mean that 50% or more of all machines have been upgraded, which is also what the poll shows, my guess is you're very optimistic...but I don't actually have a clue.

Additionally, this board is unequivocally NOT representative of most Shopsmith owners. Besides being more handsome and intelligent than the average Shopsmith owner (by at least 50%), the members here actively use their machines, maintain them, a few restore them, and no one here seems inclined to store their Shopsmith on the back porch so they can sell it on Craigslist for a couple of hundred bucks (well, after asking $1,200 for a while <g>). My guess is the 50% the poll shows bought the Power Pro may even be high for this group. However, I'm certain this group has a higher percentage of Power Pro owners than average. Almost all (perhaps even 100%) like the machine and at least take care of the one(s) we own.

By no means have 50% of all machines been upgraded. Shopsmith built a lot of machines. I've heard numbers but I can't validate any of them. I'd not be surprised, however, to hear someone say there are over a thousand PowerPros out there. I know of six right here in Tucson that are owned by people who do not even read this forum. There is one Tucson forum member who owns one who has not commented in this poll yet.

Speculation, lots of speculation.

I think there is a reason that the electronics are only covered for two years instead of five like the mechanics.

And that is why I'm torn on doing the upgrade. I have doubts about the life of the electronics. I can fix almost anything in this world that is mechanical, but circuit boards are Greek to me.
