I must say that you folks' research into this new business venture, sounds like the days of "The Green Hornet" radio mystery show, & "Dick Tracy," close to the years when my dad bought his Mark V - 1960.

Has anyone tested the new "club" and its "home workshop visitors with a Smitty Uniform?" Is it really $300 per day, plus shipping the Instructor? Regards from out of the Woods

This is just speculation, but I can't help but wonder if Mr. Young got spanked. More of my uninvited opinion:

If the reason that Mr. Young's web stuff just disappeared is because he got spanked, good for SS. He had no business doing that on his own! I do not know him personally, but I have watched him do many demo's. It may even have been him that I bought my SS from back in '95, and I have some comments about him. He does know his stuff. He can flip the SS around very efficiently and make it look effortless. He also is not very friendly. The last time that I saw him was last spring, at the Tacoma Home and Garden Show. When he found out that I already owned a Mark V, he completely ignored me and even though I was right in front, he looked right through me. My wife even commented to me that the guy just didn't look like he was a happy man. The main reason that I went to the Home and Garden show was SS. I was hoping to learn more about some of the accessories, and order a few things from him. I decided to wait. I did buy over $2000 worth from Rick Davis at the TA shortly after that. If Mike makes any kind of commission on fair sales, he missed out.

Wow the web site is gone too:eek: What am I to do:confused: I guess I will stay here and get a lot better information and help support ShopSmith and not have to pay--now what was the price again:confused: $9.99-$20.00-$300.00 $799.99?

I suspect that we don't know all of the facts and probably never will.

Did Mister Young have a viable service to offer? I want to believe, Yes. All of us need to know more about our Shopsmith and how to maintain it and how to use it properly and safely. I think that was what was being offered.

But isn't that what the Shopsmith National Woodworking Academy offers?

Not exactly. Shopsmith makes no offer to come to our homes but they do come to some of our neighborhoods in the form of the Traveling Academy. Why just last month the TA was here in Tucson. All four of us that attended enjoyed it very much. Not hardly enough participation to call it a feeding frenzy but I enjoyed it and greatly benefited from it.

Back in Dayton, Shopsmith has suspended classes at the National Academy. I suspect that lack of participation had something to do with that. If I had $799 to pay for tuition, I would prefer spending it at the Dayton facility. But I have not attended the Academy for purely financial reasons. I suspect I am not alone in this decision.

Well then, why did Mister Young think that he could show up and make a go at this? I guess it is all part of a dream and we all have the right to dream.

But then there are Trademarks and Copyrights and Intellectual Property Rights and the like. This website, that has so rapidly disappeared, sure did look like it was sanctioned by Shopsmith but maybe it wasn't. Since we don't have the right to ignore Copyrights and Trademarks, even in pursuit of a dream, I suspect that is what we have just witnessed - the crumbling of a dream. Maybe it was the crushing of a dream???

Quite frankly, I am very content with what we already have. The Sawdust Sessions, this forum with its open line of communication, The Traveling Academy, Hands Online Shop Tips and a few local get togethers to discuss the craft - what more could we ask for.

The only things that I can think of right now are a bug free Online Sawdust Session every other Saturday and "The Shop Journals by Rick Davis" at a shipping/handling price I can afford.:rolleyes:

I wonder if that person is (was) a regular member of this forum and say what you all had to say about it? Your collective reaction was rather harsh.

His criticism of our forum was equally harsh.

I do not have a problem with Mike, or some other SS rep, going around the country performing individual instruction for a fee. That is not a bad idea. It was the way that he did it. At the same time that he was promoting himself, he was knocking other SS sanctioned goings on. I do not know about the rest of you, but that was what bothered me. Now, let's get back to making sawdust!

Hi All,

I purchased my new SS 510 at the local Home Depot (here in Roseburg,Or) in Dec. I believe Mike was the rep who gave the demo. My question is who did I buy it from Mike or Shopsmith? I had a problem with delivery and missing parts but I assumed it was Home Depots fault.

When I contacted SS, the folks were very helpful and rectified all discepencies. Excellent Customer Support/Service. I am very Satisfied with my purchase!

Again was Mike working for Shopsmith in Dec,2007?
If not, does it have any impact on my purchase?
Example warranties,etc.
