The age old question, do you ever have enough mud around? I have not made any special plans for a source of mud. Perhaps I should. I'll think on that.
No I have not subscribed. That would be another good thing to do, thanks for the reminder.
I'm thinking I'd like to do another box for the back yard. Have to see if I can get around to that in the very near future. I have a router bit that I purchased for just this sort of project, so the next box might well be a routed version.

Last spring was a ruff year for the early bees. The blossoms and bee have to come out about the same time and last spring that did not happen. So the occupancy of my bee house was very low last year. Now I can not speak to how other places fared but this is how is is here in my yard.
I was checking the few holes that I know are occupied today, since it is spring and even if the weather has not felt like spring today we are at 78. Low and behold we had one emerging. I managed a couple of pictures but we were off so I didn't get any of it completely out of the hole. They climb out and it takes a while before they fly off so I will keep watching to see if I can catch one of the others in the various stages. Would like to see a movie of them but that is just too much effort right now.
As you might know the holes with the mud are where the bees are, sometimes they never emerge, but most time I only find the empty holes that had been used without getting to see the bees.
My other bee house was also very lightly used. I have to go check and see if some have come out back there too.
Anyway here is a picture:

Great photo of the emerging bee.
I checked the bee house at my daughters house a couple of weeks ago, one tube had six cocoons in it. all the rest were empty. The cherries and plums are just about done blooming, so I hope they emerge in time for the apple tree.

Very cool photo Ed ! The bees here in Vegas are pretty prolific. We had two swarms last year and one already this year. They seem to prefer my sprinkler valve boxes. I’ve been toying with building a super and some frames and see if I can get them to occupy it and possibly harvest some honey.
