As algae said...I'd buy the 520 in a heartbeat. It's worth double the asking price...or more.

Also the planer
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/tls/4148961241.html is worth 2-3 times the asking price if its working.
You have some amazon deals available to you right now. I doubt you will find anything like it for awhile. I'm amazed they haven't sold already...

The only differences between a 500,505,510,520. Is the table size and support legs. A 500 can be upgraded to a 510 or a 520. Or a 500 to a 510. BUT the cost wood be a little MORE than the first listing ya listed.

The biggest difference Between the 500 shown and the 510,520 is table size and the rail and fence system. If your going to be using the table saw function much you will want the 510 for sure. The 520 comes with a slightly better rail system and a larger improved saw fence. Nothing wrong with the 500 ,but the 510/520 model changes were done to overcome some of the 500's shortcomings. The 510/520 has the benefit of the 2 bearing quill and more powerful motor over the 500 on Craigslist. I have a 510 that I have upgraded with the 520 rail and fence. With the choices provided I would not consider the 500. That being said the 500 looks to be in great shape and priced well. Good luck with your purchase.

A 500 has a 1 small main table and 1 small extension table (the one on the end). Anyone who ever complains about a shopsmith usually complains that the table saw on a 500 is terrible and ridiculously small.
A 510 has a larger main table and a larger extension table. It also has 2 "floating" tables that connect to the main and/or extension table. This enhances the table setup option almost infinitely. This link is the difference from a 500 to 510:

A 520 is the same as the 510 except the rails are upgraded and easier to work with. It also has a wider rip fence. This link is the difference between a 510 and a 520.

If you buy it new yes.
eBay has them used:
A 500 to 510 just sold for $450.
A 500 to 520 just sold for $750 (which is more than the 520 shopsmith, bandsaw, and dust collector above)

The ad said the planer is not working. When you get it home, take a bunch of pictures and post them here. There are folks here that can tell you of anything looks amis before you turn it on. Good luck!
