Seriously tho, a gooseneck light might not be a bad idea...
Uh huh, just make sure it can be 'positioned' completely out of the way(always).

Yeah, for lathe work and using the SS as a drill press it might not be a bad idea. Anything else...not so much.

I'm not sure what state your table surfaces are in but in general remove any crud and oxidation and then give them a coat of MinWax or Johnson's Paste Wax and then buff them well to remove any excess wax. Stuff should slide on them like butter after that and this will minimize any future oxidation issues (assuming you repeat this on a reasonable maintenance interval. Same maintenance for your way and bench tubes, risers tubes on tables and jig saw etc.
