There should be only either 2 or 3 pulley grooves showing.rcplaneguy wrote:Wow, things are definitely not lined up right. It is a poly v belt.
I updated my location I'm in the Salt Lake City area of Utah. After watching the Sawdust Session on replacing the drive train, I think I can handle it, but do you think I need to go through a full disassemble and cleaning? Just going off the written document makes me nervous, I feel much better when I can watch a video of someone else first.enyoc wrote:Ryjones you hit the jackpot with that headstock - it's 1993 so it has the 2 bearing quill and the larger hand hole in the casting. However things don't appear lined up in the picture, the belt is all wrong.
You should update your profile to show location to see if you have any owners nearby who could spend a little time with you.
Here's some more material that will be of help: http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/SS_Arch ... eaning.pdf

Thanks for the Encouragement Dusty, Is there anything else I should be looking for or doing while I replace both belts? The link from Enyoc suggested a more in depth disassemble and cleaning.dusty wrote:You can handle it!
Go slow. Stop if it doesn't feel right! Ask questions if you can't proceed! You are not alone in this.
As good as that machine looks - it will be a piece of cake.

I sent you a PM on this subject. Thanks.ryjonesacct wrote:Thanks for the Encouragement Dusty, Is there anything else I should be looking for or doing while I replace both belts? The link from Enyoc suggested a more in depth disassemble and cleaning.
I ordered the two belts, are these ever available to find locally or on Amazon? I am anxious to get started, but I want to wait until I have the new belts to put on. 5 to 7 days seems like such a long time.
