What folks are these?

"Bandsaw tire warehouse"

They are selling new poly-v belts of their design.

They are selling new button bearings for the control sheave.

Bill Mayo likes his stuff!

I hope to install the parts this weekend. I'll post the results in a new thread.

Bingo! I was maybe 16 years old at the time, and would endure an hour of Buck Owens and Roy Clark "a pickin' and a grinning" and such, just to get an occasional look at Barbi. ;)

I noticed this odd observation as well, so I asked!!!

$45?? Custom made, 60 sold??

Ok, so what's so special/ different about this 5/8" arbor versus the one Shopsmith sells for $32??

They actually responded, and rather quickly I might add.

We make these in house on a $600,000.00 CNC machine and our price is based on what we need to charge to make a small profit. Looking at the finish of some of their parts I would be suprised if they even own up to date manual lathe. And lets not forget Ebay and Pay Pal are not free, They take a combined 13%. Aside from that I sell more of these to customers fed up with waiting 3-5 weeks because SS makes these parts to order. We have them in stock ready to ship. This arbor we sell is for the old style 500 model. Last time I checked Shopsmith only had the 510-520 on their site so if you have a 500 the 510 520 arbor is too long for your blade guard. Shopsmith also charges over 40.00 with shipping. Gary

Hm, I responded with:

WOW! A little long winded, but definitely thorough! So you use a very expensive machine to make these. So you have ebay and paypal fees. I have a 510 so that's not a problem. So you have them in stock. OK..........

Checking ebay, I see 3-4 used 5/8" arbors in the $10-$20 range with quite a bit of interest/ bidding, ie bidding them up!!! :(

The Y2K scare was good to me. Most companies started to acquire as many contract Cobol programmers as they could starting in 1997 to address the date issue before it brought their computer systems down. So, you could have still been working when the program updating process was in full swing.

If I were guessing I'd say it too uses the angle. BTW if you find a long screw to put in place of the set-screw it is a lot easier to see.

Ed, I just looked at3 3 arbors I have. One is nice shiny black, and the other 2 are well patinaed ER stuff. The old ones do not have the angled set screw hole, but the new one does. The new one has 2 pocketed washers, and a 3/8ths thick pocketed spacer. Also has the washer with the key in it, and the groove cut in the screw threads.

Actually, I was working when the Y2K scare happened. I was also retired. I was invited, by Siemens, to come back to work as a consultant on a public service vehicle project, managing the installation of GPS systems.

This was the best job I ever had because I was able to get dirty. It was a hands on type management job. There was no desk involved. I worked on a bench right along side the crew. My office was in a cargo storage container.

dusty wrote:Do the Shopsmith arbors have the set screws at an angle? I don't think so.

I would estimate shipping at about $7.00 plus item cost of $40.00.

Total cost from Shopsmith - est. $47.00.

So does this mean that that Arbor from Shopsmith will allow me to use other brand saw blades and not just the Shopsmith Brand? If not what arbor would I want and where can I get one? Thanks for any information my friends.
