depending on how wide the wood is there are a few ways you can achieve your goal, that said it may not stay flat / square even if the piece is stable , a jig and a router sled could be used as in this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HByLPEEYHro .IMO the wood needs to be acclimated and this is another issue .
