The Dewalt 735 has reversable blades so they will last longer. I have successfully sharpened 735 blades using the same system as above. It is not as handy as with Shopsmith blades because the 735 blades are thinner and need shimming. I have only been successful in re-sharpening them twice. After that they lose their needed blade width.

I figure I have saved about $800 so far, over a Shopsmith planer. I can buy a whole lot of replacement blades for that money. Either that, or I can buy two 735s.

?????? says nothing other than it indicates confusion. Go back and look for de blue 'highlight'. Was that that was being 'questioned'. i.e. Yer 'greenie' does not have a 7/8 hp motor!;)

I have to plane > 4" all the time .today i was using the stand alone SS planer and wished it was 6".Table legs are my main use for the heavier planer. The farmtables i build have been as big as 8" x10" on occasion.
I find the SS planer is decent but nothing out of the ordinary in any aspect really.I'd let it go quick and buy a larger capacity planer if anyone wants it.mmao.
That's kind of my take on pretty much all the SS equipment.I like the porability and the quality is very good overall but IMHO not any beter than the other good brands out there.I think the 10er is old school heavy ,high qualitybut also old school technology.
Not slamming ,just what I see.

Righto. I knew that. It's a 3/4 HP. Not sure where I got the 7/8 from. Maybe because ofthe 12 gauge cord I put on iT?
