iGaging Angle Cube vs Wixey

I don't know exactly why. I am just not real comfortable with it yet.

The pictures that I have posted are not, in themselves, conclusive evidence of anything but there is one observation that I have made.

In the 2nd decimal position, I have seen nothing other than a zero or a five. I have "very slowly" changed the table tilt over a range of 3 or 4 degrees and there just is no evidence of change until it jumps. I expected a smooth change from 0.00 to 0.01 to 0.02 to 0.013 etc. That just does not happen.

It also seems that the iGage either agrees with the others or a some amount less than the others.

I do like having the side magnets.

We been there b4 with the iGauge resolution. The resolution would be .01 to get the sequence you expect. Since the resolution is .05, .00 .05 .10 .15 .20 .25 is to be expected. I assume you zeroed all three one time before all those pix.

By sticky I mean slow/jumpy to respond to slow changes. The 'extra fine' resolution may contribute to that perception.

I do not think we have the means to compare these adequately. A super fine angular adjusting table would be required. Accuracy to a few seconds so as to determine tip points of each between display indications. Far more time/work than is justified IMHO.

You are absolutely correct and I have been operating in a wishful fog.

Accuracy is +-.2 and it operates within that parameter. I saw the accuracy spec and was wanting something the iGage cannot provide (and did not advertise).

The iGage operates well within its specifications. I, however, will remain partial to my Wixey.

re dynamic tilt change: on the iGage the hi/lo arrows change with real tilt changes before the digital display changes (observed in .05 steps). Don't know if the others do that. So the tool is picking up on the smaller degree change, just not configured to display except in "blocks" of .05, apparently.

I was getting into setting up, making gradual linear change until the hi/lo's indicated change, stopping and resetting the zero, change again until hi/lo, counting .01 steps, etc etc, but before I got very far my eyes started to cross and I had to go get a 'cold one' to alleviate the distress.

Aha! Now I remember-- last time we tossed this around I later came to the conclusion that the "problem" is that dang extra digit to the right of the decimal point. Comparing a tool that reads to one decimal to another tool that reads to 2 just isn't a (ahem) level playing field. So I just started looking for the hi/lo arrows instead of the .0X digit. {Odd- the iGage is too sensitive.}

...and about the displays with very small incremental tilt changes-- the two types can be reading the same degree of tilt and yet not displaying the same numbers, because one is registering differences in steps of .01 while the other in steps of .05 (poorly put I admit). So a real delta of .01 from, say, 6 degrees (a not uncommon tilt of a typical contemporary garage floor) will (or may)
read(sense) .01 or .0, display 6.00 or 6.0;
delta .02, read .02, .0, display 6.00, 6.0;

The Wixey does have an auto shut off feature.

What brand of batteries are you using?

I only see leaking when I use cheap no name batteries or I let the batteries go beyond their recommended shelf life. Once a year I try to find all my flashlights and check the battery dates. If they are past the date I toss them and get new batteries. With LED flash lights I find this to be particularly important because the batteries last a long time. I generally don't use anything but Duracell. I do this with anything that doesn't use a rechargeable or button style battery.

I don't think a flashlight is a good place to store your dead batteries.

I also tend to use Duracell batteries and I wholeheartedly agree that dead batteries should not remain installed - anywhere. I have learned that lesson by being forced to discard devices where the batteries had been stored.
