My ignorance!!! I thought they were all Mark V after the ER. God I should have known JPG would not make a mistake!!!!

I will look at the quadrant and see how it is configured, thanks for the history/other info, I will be aware of the mounting situation.

Well since only two of us have been using Mark x yer 'ignorance' is understandable! 'He' started it and I picked up on it(got weary of Mark 5/V/7).

FCOL go back a few posts and observe my incorrectly referring to the quadrant as a protractor. So much fer perfection.

FWIW the mark 5/V trunion rear mounts are commonly installed basackwards also which also results in breaking them. The geniuses at SS(way back in the 50's) put the word 'up' on them. Put there for assemblers at the factory. Totally inappropriate for us who do not have the production fixture. Tit/projection does NOT face the table!

P.S. The absence of referring to the older Mark 5 made by precessors of SS Inc. by SS Inc.(and successor) as a Mark 5 adds to the confusion. As you commented, you thought everything after the '10' was a Mark V. You got a lot of company there!!!! Look at the metal plate on yer goldie above the quill shaft lock end. Look at the vent plate.

Skou I include Mark 2(and 1) in the x. There is enough similarity to make that appropriate(but dicey!) I still refer to them(5/2/1/V/7) specifically when more accurate. Truth be exposed, the 1,2 are not only rare, but commonly not heard of so minimal misdirection results from meaning all when using 'x'.

Edit: Aw... It's so cute!

Can I hijack this just enough to ask about mounting the M V back trunion mounts backwards? I can't picture it. I've seen other references to trunnions commonly breaking, what do I not want to do?

I think that "ER" before the serial number indicates that the machine was originally a Model E that was factory upgraded to an ER before being shipped out. One of my three ERs is like that:

Notice the "Model 10E" at about the 7:30 position on the logo plate. It was factory built as a 10E. But, before shipping out, it was upgraded to the ER. Hence the serial number of "ER 13927."

Based on your serial number, rbursek, it is a 10ER, not a 10E (also evidenced by the style of some of the parts). My other two 10ERs have serial numbers of 35630 and 39722 which are below your 56762. So that puts it well into 10ER territory.

There are 4 ways to mount it to the table. 2 are correct, 2 are wrong.

Looking at the varmint, one can see a protrusion on one side between the screw holes. That side must face away from the table. If installed backwards, tightening the screws will cause it to interfere with the table and break. That projection has the word 'TOP' on it and refers to 'top' with the table upside down!!!!!!!. Hence der confusion. I think I said elsewhere recently that it said 'up'. There goes perfection again!!!!;)

Okay guys, a fustrating day in the Phenix Hatchery!!! I have the greenie, a Delta TS and a Free standing 6" jointer in some form of almost complestion. Not to mention the goldie in the basement and the ER 10.
I got the "X" thing, covers all bases!!!
Went to put the new power cord and anti tension device on the greenie to finally install belsts and shafts, have to drill a larger hole for the anti devise, all large bits are at my other shop, taht I am moving to home base here. Funny thing, cut the old cord on the greenie, aluminum wire, not copper!!! I also posted/ somewhere about how you all redo incriment indents with new paint, the Delta TS miter gage was polished alumimum with white paint, I used black finger nail polish, worked great, but need asitone/finger nail polish remove to wipe off excess, I happen to have both around and the polish. DONT ASK!!

On the ER, the quadrant has indents on the same places, and a lever holds the quadrant in place, until you lock it down. The lever is lightly spring-loaded, and the lock has a captive nut to lock it down. There is a handle over the nut, and you can pull it away from the nut, and actually remove the threaded shaft the nut is on, for disassembly, using the handle. The E and ER models are different, and won't interchange.

Yes it is and no attention but here on the gray mare, as stated above trying to get some completion to other things, details, details and more details, but I am a detail man!!!

That pic of the SS tag is not like mine, under neath "Smith" is the S# in silver, starting with an "E", yours ses there, "Reg. Trade Mark". Then starting at 7, it sez "Model" , a mounting screw at 6, then "ER" to 5.
I took some pics today of the Er and the internals of the goldie, it is a PITA on MiroSoft to do all of that pic work, an Apple is so much easier, then to get them here!!! Still trying to figure that out, other then Photo Bucket link.
Thanks all you guys, shoot, may have to take a road trip this summer to KT!!!!

What are yer pix stored on? CF, SD? Copy them to the computer. Then edit them with 'irfanview'(freebie download)(google it). Then load from computer to forum. Quite easy once ya get the hang of it. All sorts of tweaking is possible.
