I was being sympathetic to his likely new burden.

Just like Vista was a downgrade from XP,
W8 is a downgrade from W7. (And, ME was
a downgrade from 2K or 98SE.)

Seems like (except for 98SE and 2K) every
other Windows OS is a POC!

I'm glad Shopsmith doesn't have that issue,
although some models (10) are better than
others, but not as safe. (I'm off to my fallout
shelter, after that statement!)

That was a nice sign of appreciation on WD's part. I wish I could get another NAS-class 4 TB drive dropped in my lap so I can finish filling out my Synology NAS (okay, I don't need it any time soon as I still have 5 TB free -- but still, it has one empty drive bay just sitting there ;^).

I've built all of my personal "full size" X86 PCs, the first one a 486 in 94 or 95, and updating my other computers (Tandy CoCos and Amigas) prior to that. The only X86 type computers I've bought have been laptops and small form factor. Also did a bunch of full rehabs on work computers in the late 90s/early 00s, basically replaced everything except the case and sometimes PS and drive.
