"ORGANIZED PEOPLE ARE JUST TOO LAZY TO LOOK FOR STUFF"

LMAO.

I am glad I am not the only one. I won't go into my madness, but I will admit that I have stored "stuff" since the 80's ....

This is why when I built my garden shed 12'x15' and my neighbor asked, "Why don't you make that bigger?", I told him, "The more space you have the more stuff you store." Among the Man Laws, this has to be one of them besides "Don't fruit the beer". :D

Like the 'organized', a hoarder cannot be lazy and not remember nor 'look' for things salted away. Geez, all ya gotta remember is, where was it I last touched it?

Good advice if you are not wearing a bracelet with your name and address on it.

I thought for a moment that you had a picture taken of my work bench but it can't be. I don't own a hand held power belt sander and I used up all the Styrofoam insulation in the RV.

You got to know when to hold, when to part with things and I'm not good at that. All in my upbringing, I'm afraid it will always be a struggle. I do make some headway but it slow in coming and painful in most cases.

I need to remove about 12 boxes of good stuff this week. The easy target were some old 8mm backup tapes. I no longer have an 8 mm tape drive and haven't in a lot of years. The backups without the software and drive are useless. How many tapes you ask? One box contains 158 tapes, so two boxes given the same packing method is 316. The tapes are in the garbage, cases are off to be recycled as are the j-folds.

I know it didn't happen with out a picture but I only have one from when I started. The good byes you will have to trust me on.

I still have a mag tape (large one) with all my programs, data and a complete TOPS20 operating system :p

Long since dumped the boxes of cards and paper tapes, though.

I run into trouble when I get to all of the OLD computer stuff. Items like the 8" and 5" floppies and floppy drives and the old operating systems.

I cannot employ any of them anymore but I just cannot bring myself to dump them.

If I could even read the disks, will anything that is available today run CPM.

Does anyone need a 300 baud modem and acoustic coupler. Having this allowed me to complete homework without going to the computer lab every night after work (unless I needed punch cards).

I've been at getting rid of computer stuff the last year or so. I use to have a sideline of putting high performance systems together, never made any money but I was able to have some pretty hot for the time computers.

Last fall I filled up the van and took computers/monitors/etc to goodwill. I did that again this spring so most of the big stuff was gone. Today I got to the boxes in the garage. Besides the 8mm tapes I got in to a box of odds and ends, 20MB, 44MB, 88MB, and 1GB backups. Here is a picture of the bench before they went in to the garbage.

I also found a box with assorted drives, 5-1/2 floppy, 3-1/4 floppy, another newer 3-1/4 floppy, brand new 270MB syquest, HP dat also new, IDE HD, SCSI HD, and a 2GB wide SCSI...... The hard drives will be disassembled for the magnets and the media trashed.

I have 3 boxes of other hardware and cables ready for goodwill. And yes some stuff was so old that I trashed it. I'm guessing I have another 3 to 5 boxes more of computer stuff out there somewhere.

Progress so far was decent, I have 4 of the banker boxes empty and two smaller boxes. Got two more days to make my goal so I should make it unless we get rain or it gets to hot to stand out there and sort.

WOW TOPS20 I remember that and also TOPS10. "I'm an old DECie". But you've got me beat. I didn't keep any souvenirs. I even left all my VMS stuff, manuals / programs etc. :)

At least I know where to go if I need them....

And PDP11 stuff if you need that, too! ;)
