Steve,JPG,
I have not mounted the HR tight, I wanted that to "float" a bit when in the H position, I figured the weight of the rest would "place" it. I am still working around your thoughts on a second "ti bar", I see your points, and I am anual redundant, but in the vertical DP for wood working dont think it is needed. If H boring, there I have the head rest I think for my uses It will be fine, If I want to locker down, I can go to the greenie. But I may not be one the same page with yo all, and miss something here!!

Bob, I've got a rig assembled in the vertical drill-press mode, but it is nothing but a shortened base, (the diagonal brackets hit at one bolt in the center) a pivot base, and from the base up, (In drill-press mode) tailstock, carriage and at the top end, a tiebar. I've got a carriage rear lock, from Skip, to hold the tailstock in place. The tiebar is positioned so that I can mount another tailstock upside-down at the head end,and slide the whole rig into the tail end of my main rig. A table raiser crank pulls both of them together.
Also, whenever I assemble a Model 10, the way tubes stick out the base or the tiebar, only 1/2 the thickness of the tailstock.
I got some heat for drilling out the center threads of a tiebar, but I ordered an extra one from Tom (Hogwinslow) for just that purpose. I also got a tailstock, the one mounted upside-down, to use as the joint connector reinforcement.
This extension gives me a 70 inch spindle length, more if I take the right hand tailstock off, and mount it in the usual place, and put the headstock drive belts to the left of the headrest.
I think 6.5 feet is a long enough baseball bat.

I was referring to "H" mode so as the secure it to the HR. In Vertical it would be 'in the way'.
