Oh, about your Model 10 speedchanger? You won't need on a table saw. On other functions (lathe in particular) it is close to indispensable. And, 1/2 HP is just fine for doing lathe stuff.

I forgot to look at the manufacture of his motor but I did check the hp. I fear that yet another 1/2 hp is not going to make much difference power wise unless his under producing.

When I got that 10er working I did clean out the motor and found the bearings to be pretty much like new, either been replaced or not used much at any rate.

We did a hand check to see how hot it was getting about half way through the cutting and again when we finished. It was plenty warm but you could keep your hand on it, meaning it was operating as expected.

Interesting enough my 10er has an Atlas motor. The PO thought the motor was going as it had almost no power. After I looked at it I found that just 2 or maybe 3 strands of the wire were all that was powering the machine, the rest were all broken off. Stuck some solder to them and the motor seemed to have plenty of power..... don't know how much damage was done trying to run that way if any.

Not sure if you knew this, Ed, but the Model 10 was shipped without a motor, unless one was specially ordered. Also, most Monkey-Wards sold motors themselves, back then. Most 10s were set up, using the A.O.Smith motors, though. (Montgomery-Wards was the major re-seller of the 10.)
