When in NM, you learn to expect anything you want is a long way off :D

I had made arrangements ahead of time as to using it heavily before I paid him the money. He agreed. He actually said, wow, glad this happened here than after you took it home ....

Mounted planer

I live in Colorado and we do some traveling as well. My decision on the planers was really based on one thing, Space. I do not have room for stand alone stuff. I made a storage stand for the planer, jointer and other parts. The stand is just high enough to let me mount the planer with out to much lifting.
I like the set up I have, and can't really comment on the other set up, but even if it was 10 times better, I would have to stay with what I have. I am probably exactly what SS had in mind when the designed the M-V.

We fired it up and did some pretty serious planing with it. About an hour into it the pulley came burning through the cover and off of the blade shaft. The shaft is hammered. I feel pretty confident that I could save it, but it just wasn't worth the gamble. that shaft and head is about 400 bucks from the mothership (I checked). The pulley and cover would only be about 30 bucks, but I just didn't want to take the gamble.

So, I am back on the hunt for a planer. I am still not convinced that a ProPlaner is absolutely what I want, I would try a SS mounted one, particularly seeing how the Pro works. The PowerPro would be the perfect powersource.

And the irony is, had you simply disassembled the planer and loaded it into your car, you almost certainly would have discovered that the pulley was loose before the damage was done!

I am glad to hear that! I may have found another that is mounted and not a pro. I really like the idea of using the PowerPro as the power source. I hope to go look at it in a few days....

BTW, you live in one of my favorite parts of Colorado! :D

Yeah, and either way, I would have come home empty handed ..... :(
