Rather than trying to do it on a jointer, you would be happier running it through a 12" planer. A 12" thickness planer will do a better job as it gets the sides completely parallel.
I picked up a load of rough sawn cherry about 2 or 3 years ago. I ran it through my Chinese 12" thickness planer. It turned that rough sawn wood into nice boards that I used to build kitchen furniture.
Since then, I've picked up a Shopsmith 12" planer so the next time, the job will be even easier when I find some rough wood again.
