Sounds like a good day of shopping / learning, all the same. If I had the money for a Festool, I'm sure I would invest in one if and when I needed it. As it is, I try to invest in the highest quality I can in the areas that give me the most bang for my buck. Hence, the importance of the PowerPro when my old motor blew up (mea culpa)--it was not cheap, but it is high quality and it upgraded all my major tools I had at the time at once. I recently bought the TrueTrac and reviewed it on this site. It's a fantastic tool for what it does (or for what I use it for), but it's not a Festool and doesn't have all the capabilities or the niceties. It is, however, much more accurate and a fair amount safer than my old homemade guide. That being said, I'm not typically doing bevels or plunge cuts--I'm doing a rough break down of sheet goods. Being able to do so quickly, and more accurately, has saved me time on both ends, but if I were needing a lot of precision work with sheet goods, the Festool has obvious advantages, and even more safety features. You gotta buy the right tool for the right job, and it sounds like you are doing your homework.

I look forward to the update if and when you are finally able to pick one up and give us the tour!

Just getting around to entering this purchase in the computer, the nice part is the savings of $64! One of the items is on order but they gave me the sale price so I will be going back to pick that item up...... wonder if that is all I will come home with???

They had some hunks of wood that were calling my name but I resisted today, when I go back who knows how much I will be able to control myself. I really don't need them as they become yet another project that is waiting on me but then I do want to try and turn some bowls. So many things to do and so little time.

Looks like a price increase is coming April 1 on Festool items. Not clear from the notice I got if everything is going up or just some things. The saw that I am now interested in is going up for sure.

So in the next few days I have to decide if I pay them now or pay them a bit more a little later on.

I got an email from Highland Woodworking today about that very thing. It only listed 13 items but said it is a General price increase so I would guess that means most things. Of the items listed the price increase was $10-$25.

The CT26E vacuum would be a great first Festool purchase for any Shopsmith owner. Who was it who once said that buying quality hurts only once, when you pay for it. After that it gives you great joy every time you use it.

Sorry! To me paying these prices for these simple tools is just plain silly!

If you want to spend some money, why not buy a FELDER professional combination machine? (Only $24,000 or so bucks) With one of these you can do everything you can do with a Shopsmith Mark 7, plus you can accurately handle all sheet goods.

Chuck, of course you're right. I always respectfully agree with any octogenarian in the room. I look forward to someday earning the right to be a curmudgeon too!

But that Festool stuff, those German engineers really think of everything before they slap that ridiculous price tag on them. Hans Goldschmidt was a genius too.
