Boot camp in Orlando would explain some things. Everyone knows the only REAL sailors went to boot camp in Great Lakes.
At the time Orlando was the only one for females. Went to Electronics Technician school in Great Lakes. Besides, during my 20 years, I earned my sea pay and surface warfare qual while stationed on four ships with temporary duty on two others. When you consider that females were just being placed on non-combatants when I entered the Navy and I finished my career on a combatant, I saw a lot of changes.

My apologies. I forgot you were one of the female members of the group. Some of the best sailors I knew were female and I was thrilled when women were getting billets on ships. My submarine was the Skipjack and it was a perfect platform for an integrated crew.

There is an online auction company in Columbus that auctions off stuff that was returned to Amazon for whatever reason. I've gotten great bargains there on a whole bunch of stuff. Tonight, they auctioned off a brand new Shop Fox 8" parallelogram jointer, and I had a chance to check it out in person a couple days ago. Pristine in cosmoline, it was. I took photos of all the contents, downloaded the manual, and verified that all the parts were there. Only problem I could see was that the staples holding the bottom of the crappy crate had pulled loose in the middle. I think that spooked someone into refusing delivery. So I put in the winning bid, at about 40% of list price.

I do hope that the wife is in a good mood when I bring it home tomorrow!

OK, I'll ask.

What is a parallelogram planer?

First off, it is a parallelogram jointer and not a planer.

Your best bet for getting an answer that will suit you would be for you to Google "parallel jointer" and read.

These are not for the ShopFox but viewing them will give you a reasonable understanding of how a parallelogram jointer differs from a wedge jointer.

This is another video that goes into to some detail but also discusses the parallelogram jointer.

DEFINITELY NOT APPLICABLE to our Shopsmith 4" jointers.
