Like Reible, I also bought a PSI Barracuda chuck and adapter. I thought the chuck was a very decent learner, but the adapter was marginal. For between centers work, the adapter was fine, but when I tried to use it to turn some hollow forms, I would randomly and regularly get some harmonic type vibration. After trying many things, I believe the problem was that the threads were a bit undersized in diameter as the best that I could get it to work was after wrapping a bunch of teflon tape around the threads before attaching the chuck.

Now that I have a dedicated lathe (Jet 1220 midi) with the same threads, I've not experienced the same problem.

My .002 cents (inflation, you know), if you have a very strong interest in turning and can afford it, go with something that Shopsmith sells and supports.
