If anything I would think you would want it harder to access like on the older shopsmith units with the set screws puddy-ed to prevent someone from getting at them unless they are cleaned out....... top of quill and ring on quill as examples.

If you need to change tension of the belt you could access them and well that is not how you do it.

Any other theory, I'm not buying this one.

The motor mount posts are held in place with set screws. If the bracket were rectangular how would you use a set screw to attach that post? The motor bracket is apparently large like that to accommodate different size motors. Hence the V shape to be able to use a set screw to attach that post.

I have always been meaning to ask. What program do you use to add you're own marks to pictures?
http://www.irfanview.com/

I've used it for years and years.

Thanks Ed. I have that here but have not really looked closely at it.

That 'v' explaination makes sense.(minimizes the length of the tapped hole for the post spacing).

I think the motor configuration determines the plate orientation.

I had downloaded irfanview when you mentioned it a long time ago for someones question about resizing pictures for upload. I have MS Office 2010 registered that I got for $10 when I still worked for the AF. The picture viewer in that suite is dead simple to resize pictures. There are a number of presets along with any custom size you want. Load the picture, click resize, select 1024X768, click OK and save. Perfect for upload to the forun every time. But, for inserting text/objects on a picture I will use irfanview.

As for the motor plate, I agree either way is OK if it works. However, the V towards the pulleys allows maximum lateral motor movement vis-a-vis pulley alignment so I think that is the intended position and I believe the manuals support that.
