JPG will give the definitive answer but at least one of the various MK V motors is easily reversible and people have done it including one of the true MK V gurus Bill Mayo. The only thing the speed control does is move the control sheave in and out. Since the motor works fine, and the reverse seems to work fine, my only other thought is that it has to do with the modified speed control. Maybe because the previous owner installed the Mark V speed control they thought it wouldn't be able to run in reverse. Any thoughts on that theory?
It may be a little hard to see in the blank drawing, but the terminals on the relay are labeled. I originally created and added the schematic inside the relay as if it were a cut-away as to what's inside.JPG wrote:For starters, add relay terminal numbers to Everett's blank.
1 label the upper left terminal(1) - I believe you currently have a BRowN wire from the capacitor connected there on your relay.
2 label the lower left terminal(2) - I believe you currently have an ORaNge wire connected there.
3 label the lower right terminal(5) - I believe you have the YELlow and purple wire there. I prefer to call it VIOlet.
If the wires are not connected as I described above, stop and tell me so.
You should have the motor connected to the switch as follows(I assume that portion of the switch is still working).
L1 BLUe
L2 WHIte
The Line Cord is connected to L1 and L2 And a grounding screw.(FWIW your linecord WHI/BLK wires are 'reversed' - it will work either way).
That leaves the RED,BLacK motor wires and the ORaNge and VIOlet wires from the relay 'dangling'.
Again if yours are not connected EXACTLY as I just described, stop and let me know.
Now for the 'moment of truth' !
Temporarily connect the ORN wire to the RED motor wire
Temporarily connect the VIO wire to the BLK motor wire
There should NOT be any unconnected wires.
plug in the line cord and push the switch on(be prepared to immediately pull the plug).
It should run.
Unplug it and swap the RED/BLK wires RED to VIO and BLK to ORN
Plug it in and turn on as before
It should run reversed.
I have to turn away from thus but will return this evening - do let me know our status if you have proceeded.

Also, not sure why, but my motor is 1 amp more than the other GE motor. I believe the HP and RPM are the same, but the amperage is higher. Seems like a decent boost in amperage for the same HP output.
