It initiated in Fountain Valley and from there it went north to City of Industry where it waited for almost an entire day for a carrier to take it back south to Long Beach.

I almost expect it to now go north to Los Angeles where it can be put on a truck that will take it west (through the City of Industry) and on to Tucson via I10.

That seems like SOP to me! SOP, not rational(This be the post office after all).

Mail 'posted' here goes to Louisville(sorting center) than back to Lexington for delivery.

Anything that comes from 'afar' and is destined for Lexington first goes to Louisville.

A sorting center used to be here in Lexington. Then came cost reduction(fewer paychecks) and there is now a very large main PO here. Only added a day to mail delivery transit time from Lexington to Lexington.

So Dusty welcome to the wonderful world of the PO. They do so many asinine things(under direction) that it baffles me where they get the management fodder from.

Dusty, you are me, mom and dad start putting presents under the tree a few days b4 Christmas, not the ones Santa brought, the family ones, you to me ect.
Chill big Daddy, it will b there b4 the post time hopefully, tiss the busy season though. Hang a Wreath on the front door, a Christmas tree in the front window, no matter what size.
Heck at moms now going on 2 here, I am getting out the 3fter for the table in the living room in the center of the picture window.
A bit of Holiday Cheer and patients.
Life sucks with age, I am 64+5 months and in good health b4 mom of now 96+6 I turned into a slug as here care giver. I get out for my walks and bike rides, but I am no where where I was 16 months ago. I was like a 55 year old physical strength and Cardio. Pool 3-4xs a week for a mile swim under 10 minutes non stop, a bit of biking, and weights. No brain work here also, my fault, lack of shop time, just doing the math on a ruler. I second,3rd guess each measurement. Do to just doing it.
I will tell all here, Mom is 96+ manages her her Meds and Money, cant hear and eye site is failing, you dont want to get there!!
Another forum I am on, in PN an older man went to his deer stand and did not come in for dinner, they found him dead, Thermos coffee cup of hot chocolate in one hand, rifle in the other stone cold. Thank you Lord, just a great way to go!!

I shall not rejoice too soon. It still needs to travel a 100 miles or so from Phoenix and then make it through the system here in Tucson. Notice that it actually moved on the weekend.

Last week i made two purchases from Shopsmith to take advantage of their free shipping offer. Orders were two days apart. My second order came first, delivered on Sunday afternoon at 3:27 by the good ol U.S. Post Office! Santa was early! The first order was shipped and is still in Ohio (or not)!

You should rejoice! Delivered by USPS on Sunday? I thought the only Sunday deliveries were "Special Delivery" which you have to pay extra for.

All that is left is for the carrier to get here. Now that can be a crap shot. She arrives, typically, sometime between 10.00am and 6:00 pm.
