Both Motors are from Shopsmith Headstocks!. Both motors have Frames that fit the Shopsmith Motor Frames.( Thanks for Asking JPG ) Good point Dusty, I asked about them on Shopsmith Forum and I didn't specify that they were Shopsmith Headstock Motors with the Mark V motor frame. (Thanks Hobbyman2)
The assumed GE motor has one external capacitor. The Franklin Electric has a buldge in the bearing end of the motor casting and only two wires, both black.
The shafts on both motors do not move when the pulled to check for a worn bearing. (Hobbyman2 Thanks for asking). The spin down time for the Franklin Electric motor of 26 seconds to stop and 20 seconds to click on the centrifugal switch might confirm that the bearings are OK or good.
I use the powerstrips to switch power on/off so that my fingers aren't close to the bare switch terminals. (Hobbyman2 Thanks for asking). AND switch the power off quickly. (Thanks JPG) The second round of testing with a different powerstrip produced different results.
I was appalled that one of the motors did not have any badging or a tag for listing Voltage etc. This is the one that got very warm and smoked during a 2-3 minute extended run attempt. To repeat, it now just spasms. I didn't stop it immediately on the extended run because I thought it was dust clearing from the windings. Then it began to stink.
I don't want to SHIP it out to and find that it can't be repaired. I also am worried about the one that starts and runs well enough to last a few light duty (lathe) years.
The reason that the rotation directions are noted, is that I thought that the motor would reverse by changing the White / Black wires on the switch

This effort was started to keep a Greenie from being scrapped. Right Now I may have to risk putting the Franklin into the motor pan and for an extended test to find out if I SHOULD have done more to make it reliable. It has to get warm enough to paint Headstock, motor pan, .... tail stock and bench castings.
