Oh and no I never had a locking set screw for the glide screws.

Do use an appropriate size screw driver!

I ground one down to custom fit!!

Well your new version is far different then mine. Just to prove that mine is in no way a tight fit I did a little video. When and if they will tighten it is due to the hex head, once you adjust them they don't stay in place, it takes just about zero effort to turn them. It is the same on the couple of this vintage that I have.........

Maybe you could wrap some teflon tape or some thing around the threads?
even after chasing my threads with a tap they are not that lose .

From the couple of these that I have I think this is how they are. Waiting to see if others have the same experience. The slot headed ones are much tighter/snugger.

I get these adjusted then tighten the metal set screw on them, not like a gorilla mind you, just to snug and that holds them fine. I'm sure thread locks of almost any non perminate type would work.

A shopsmith class I took many years ago they recommended this to keep the metal set screws from working loose and getting lost. Well either that or remove them and store them for whey you need them, which for me pretty much means I'd spend hours looking for them....
