I've heard the quill lock mentioned. How about the carriage lock? The headstock lock? I've forgotten those more times than I'd like to admit.

It was mentioned that the blade was only off by 800 thousandth's= .008 to the miter slot?
Thats isn't much 1/64 = 0.0156 1/16 = 0.0625 means it is quite a bit smaller then 1/64 .
If the table doesn't move,,, then the miter gage could be off , could mean his square could be off ?

800 thousandths = .8"
.008" = 8 thousandths ≈ 1/128".

I don't normally measure to see how far things like that are off but I do use a square and if I can see light I fix it. I went to the trouble of find a piece of wood that is close to 4" wide, actually 3-15/16 and with an error of .008" via a feeler gauge this is what you see:

I don't know at what point you can't see light anymore but it is a lot less then this.

I cant tell for sure,,,,, the picture looks like the cut starts out {{{{{ends up, depending on the direction you are feeding the stock,,,}} it's pretty straight for a little bit ?
Do you use the hold down on the miter gage ,I wouldn't think the table would move using the miter gage ?
