A geek would add a laser beam sight to the hand miter like the other two have !!

Nothing wrong with differing opinions.

However they have no place when dealing with geometry.

I for one was not expressing an 'opinion'.

MiterSet Standard and MiterSet Segments for Shopsmith will get the gauge set where you need it for even the most fussy folks. Two pins in 0 and it's 90 degrees.

Other pins for reproducible results every time, and segment set if you just want to build something with a specific number of sides and not do the math.

The gauge still has to tighten and remain in place as stated previously, and the miter gauge slots in the table must be parallel to the blade.

The table must be set 90 degrees to the blade, otherwise you wont be crosscutting... you will be beveling.

I am not familiar with the 520 fence , that said,,,,, is the track for the fence not square with the miter slot?

Every table saw in the world can and should be aligned for cutting using the miter slot ?

Since this is a shopsmith machine designed for multi purpose ,,, the sanding disc is also square/parallel with the table edge as well as the miter slot or it isn't properly aligned ??,,

Not trying to beat a dead horse ,,yet I know it seems like I am ,,,,,just trying to understand more about the table ,,,,

Assuming you feel safe using the jig to set your miter angle ,,doesnt that also align the miter gage with the miter slot in the table??,,, I have to assume you trust the miter slot and fence alignment all the way across your table.

I trust your table,,, and I have never seen it in person.

I can not know that without verification, Experience tells me it will be square but like on the 510 there are other parts that are installed during assembly. These additional parts (including the rails) could effect squareness.

CHECK TO VERIFY...the moral of this thread.

On a 505-20 table the rails would have to be used. The front and back of the table has bosses that the rail mounting hardware attaches to.

That is an example where the sides(4) are NOT machined(except for the small boss areas). I think that illustrates the possibility that the sides are NOT a machining reference.

OK for a quick check, but come on, we are supposed to use the correctly adjusted stop.

Not sure how accurate using the round 510 tube would be. Lotta chances for error.
