Is there a clamping system to keep the base from moving side to side.

No there is not. I have used it for over 10 years and have never found a need. The holes in the base for the SS connector tubes are dead on size, no play. That makes it stay put because if you don't move it on each connector tube simultaneously the hole binds and it does not move.

If your Mark V is like mine, it may be failed motor windings due to age. My Mark V was working fine and I didn't use it for several months, but left it plugged in. I'll never do that again unless it is in use.
Couple of days ago I went to the shop to build a custom loading bench and found the motor only hums.
Found everything was in good condition, and sheaves turn freely, belts are almost new, capacitor working correctly (almost burned tip off screwdriver when discharging).
Pulled the motor found the winding's were scorched. I suspect mine took a lightening strike.
Hope you don't have same situation... I'm getting ready to order a new motor from shopsmith and they start at $398 and one with new sheaves, spring and key is about $489.
At 72 you would think I'd remember to unplug when not in use. Thank goodness it is no longer located near the FL lightening test research center.
Great week to all, Ken
