Just bought a 10er Speed Changer... Good deal or eh?

As you suggested I took the SC off to put marker on it but I could already see from inspection where it seemed to be rubbing...

So I started out with sandpaper and trying it on the tubes a few times. I could feel improvement. Then I put a small sanding wheel on my drill..

I went in light passes and followed up with fine paper and then steel wool.

Took a bit but she slides good now!

I finally finished installing the speed changer tonight. I had a few hiccups getting this thing operational but I love piddling around in the shop so it wasn't frustrating!

I put it in lower speed mode. I just sat there on my stool in amazement at the mechanism. I'd never seen one operate. I bet I ran it up and down a dozen times.

So do you guys swap the belts to high/low very often? I guess it becomes second nature and quick to readjust belt tension.

I just leave mine in the low range.

I have one set to high speed and use it mostly for sawing, then I have one set in the low speed configuration for drill press and lathe work.

Totally changes the 10ER for the better, makes a different machine out of it.
